EIt is Friday August 8 and OpenAI launches GPT 5. Over the weekend blogs and socials explode but for the first time the tone is not euphoric. Instead of wonder and excitement there is criticism. Users see a step backward and complain about bugs and show unusual skepticism. The fact that OpenAI added GPT 4 back into the model selection shows that the feedback was loud and clear.
At S+SPR we use ChatGPT daily and successfully. For us this means it is time to act. To make sure nobody on the team gets frustrated or loses their AI spark we ensure that everyone can quickly work with confidence and perhaps even more efficiency than before.
In the next Tuesday meeting which is our version of an all hands call there is a quick update. GPT 5 is out and opinions are split. Our recommendation to everyone is to try it out and gather experience and draw your own conclusions.
Our AI Task Force grabs the topic. We research and test and check which new possibilities GPT 5 offers and where the limits are. The goal is to not only build internal expertise but also find the best approaches for our projects and workflows.
I f the ideas are small and quick to implement we show them in the next Tuesday meeting. If we are talking about major changes or new workflows we turn them into a Learning Session. These last a maximum of 90 minutes and use a hybrid setup combining input with a hands on doing part.
AI is changing our work and the expectations that come with it. Our focus is on creating value where human experience and expertise and consulting skills are required. The bot can handle the rest. It is therefore a core mission for us to pass on knowledge about tools and best practices to the teams as quickly and precisely as possible. This allows them to focus on what makes S+SPR stand out which is client consulting and relationship management and networking and creative sparks and strategic excellence.
The reactions to GPT 5 show three things.
Updates today are mission critical and comparable to the launch of Windows Vista or the forced move from Facebook Business Manager to Meta Business Suite. Established ways of working suddenly stop functioning as usual. The jump from a toy to an indispensable tool happened a long time ago.
Providers that bundle multiple models and help with cross platform integration will help you survive updates with less stress.
The wow factor is shrinking while expectations are rising. This is an opportunity for a more nuanced and mature conversation about AI.
